Why I Love Literature . . .

"Wisdom comes from profound experiences deeply pondered, and great literature is the gateway to the wisdom of the ages." Dr. Rice
And if you question the necessity of wisdom in your life (no, ignorance is not bliss) check out Sirach. :)

"The poet's eye glances from heaven to earth, from earth to heaven; and his faculty of discerning likeness in difference enables him to express the unknown in the terms of the known, so as to confer upon the former a sensible credibility, and to give the latter a truly sacramental dignity."
Patmore: Principles of Art, "Imagination,"

Now can I join the 'I love literature' club, too?

Awesome quote! I'm not familiar with the author. Who is he?

Coventry Patmore. A little known, rather opinionated but never-the-less endearing Victorian Romantic Poet. Associated with Ruskin, he, unlike some of the others in the movement resisted atheism and a vague concept of 'imagination' in favor of a true, spiritually motivated romance, and converted to Catholicism at a time when it really wasn't even legal.
